If you’re redecorating and aren’t sure what to do with your old furniture, several local organizations accept donations. They work to help people in need and ensure your pieces find a new home. The organizations to donate furniture near our Kingstowne apartments include:
Lighthouse DC works to create homes for local residents and families transitioning from homelessness. It helps furnish their new places and ensures “every person has a chance to enjoy a life free of poverty.” Furniture donations are used to increase housing stability. Accepted pieces include futons, loveseats, and nightstands. Check out the donation guide for more. You can easily schedule a drop-off or request a pickup online.
Goodwill of Greater Washington
At the Goodwill of Greater Washington, the goal is to “transform lives and communities through education and community.” It accepts donations and sells the goods to the public at low prices. Ninety-one cents of every dollar raised at the store help support Goodwill’s mission. Accepted furniture donations include ottomans, china cabinets, and dining sets, for example. You’ll find a few donation centers around Kingstowne.
Lorton’s Attic is a small thrift store that is a part of the Lorton Community Action Center. The center offers food and other goods to those in need. It also helps to reduce homelessness by providing emergency financial assistance for rent and mortgage payments as well as utilities. Lorton’s Attic takes donations. It accepts furniture when space is available. Drop-off days are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays between select times.
